"HAUTE PINK" - Breast Cancer Awareness

I finally mustered the nerve to approach this subject, which is a touchy one for me. Many of you may know that two years ago, on Mother's Day, I watched (literally) my mother pass away from the devastating results of breast cancer. She fought this beast for three years before it finally won.

As I write this post, I recall the moments of those three long years where she was initially diagnosed up to the moments her heart finally stopped. I am finally at a place now where I've accepted that she's no longer here physically but she will be with me forever.

When my long time Boston friend, Nika of Nilanjo Fashion Entertainment, told me about this event she was putting together in support of breast cancer awareness month, I was nothing short of ecstatic and happy to help spread the news. Here is the information

Where I've Been

Hi guys, I feel gutted that I have not been around a lot lately. But, I've been hard at work running my new interior design business and finishing up my last term at school. Brief interjection - if you haven't already heard, I along with two other school mates and friends started Design Magnifique, Inc. If you have even started and run your own business, you know how much time goes into the ground work. Marketing (mostly social media), business development, blogging, and a whole host of other things. I'm a pretty busy girl. It's so much fun and something I wanted to do and knew I was going to do the minute I decided to pursue an interior design degree.

As I stated before I'm currently finishing up my final term. WOW!!! Three long years and new found knowledge and respect for interior design and the people who work in the field. I'm taking portfolio class now, which involves selection of four best projects to clean up and show-off. It is well underway. So here's a sneak peak of my portfolio.

I'm lovin' the way it's turning out.

Here's to my transition from one chapter to the next with guts and glory!!!

Cheers.......

Modern 'tude Mood Board

I started out on this 30-day blogging challenge strong. Woo-Ha!!! But I fell off the wagon mid-way while taking care of business development stuff for my company, Design Magnifique, Inc.. HAHA, it feels so good to say my company. Marketing takes up a big, huge chunk of one's time and not to mention meetings after meetings. I've been super busy and enjoying every moment. Anyhow, that's the reason for my absence.

I was fooling around on Pinterest, which is my last stop on the super highway before going to bed. Some people read, I pin things of interest. During one of my pinning moments, this nature image made me say "wow". It's the sandstone waves in Coyote Buttes North, AZ. The colors are rich - a nice combination of yellows, golds, oranges and browns. Those of you who've been a long time reader, know I have a thing for nature and colors. So I decided to use this picture as my inspiration for my 'tude mood board.

I call this the Modern 'tude mood board. It has all the elements of a contemporary space: clean lines, simplicity, texture and neutral tones with a splash of color. Orange is my fave - another line I've used before. But it really is. I'm drawn to this color because of what it represents. Orange is a very social, happy color that seems to affect people on that level.

As for the two rugs to the lower left, I would absolutely layer them for interest and depth. This is by far my favorite design style because it's an extension of me. It's uncluttered and interesting and allows me to design without the necessity of the bells and whistles. Less is definitely more.

What design style is an extension of you?

Just Thoughts.......

One of the best joys in my life is getting together with old friends, basking in the laughter, walking down memory lane and just plain ole' catching up. Hanging out with a few friends I hadn't seen in years is how I spent my Saturday. And, although we have FaceBook, it will never be the same as seeing them in person. This day is forever imprinted on the most treasured moments of my life.

Which brings me to share some of my favorite quotes. Great tidbits, people tend to forget some simple life lessons that will make their lives and others around them stressfree. One of my favorites from the list is listen without interrupting; you may actually hear what people are and are not saying. Talk less, listen more.

Some of my friends are so in tuned with this quote. If you continue to believe you can't do something, guess what, you'll never move forward. Trust in yourself. However, there's a limit to convincing. They must trust and believe in themselves.

Then there are the uptight, anal, impatient people in my life. I tell them all the time calm down, stress kills. Relax, have a glass of wine or something.

My alltime favorite quote. If I'd listen to naysayers three years ago when I first told people I was going back to school to get an interior design degree, I would not be where I am today. The people who really know me, knows that I live by this creed.
